The apostle Peter wrote, "Since you have purified your
souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the
brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, having been born
again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God
which lives and abides forever" (I Peter 1:22,23).
People, who became Christians in the New Testament
believed in Jesus, repented of their sins, confessed Jesus as Lord, and were
baptized into Jesus. If you have done these things to become a Christian,
then you have become a Christian the same way people were saved in the time
of Christ. Read the following Scriptures, let them instruct your mind, and
obey them from your heart.
Believed: John 8:24; 3:15,16; 20:30,31; Mark
16:15,16; Acts 16:31; 18:8; Galatians 3:26, and Romans 10:9,10.
Repent of sins: Luke 13:3,5; 24:46,47; Acts 2:38;
3:19; 17:30,31; 26:20; and II Peter 3:9.
Confess Jesus as Lord: Matthew 10:32,33; 16:16;
John 11:25-27; Acts 8:37; Romans 10:9,10; and I Timothy 6:12.
Baptized into Christ: Matthew 3:13-17; 28:18-20;
Mark 16:15,16; John 3:3-5; Acts 2:38; 8:12,13; 8:35-40; 9:18; 10:47,48;
16:15; 16:30-33; 18:8; 19:1-5; 22:16; Romans 6:1-7; Galatians 3:26,27;
Ephesians 4:4; Colossians 2:12,13; and I Peter 3:21.
Our belief in God and His Son comes through hearing the
word of Christ (Romans 10:17). Learning the gospel of Christ leads us to
turn from or repent of our sins (Acts 3:19). A believer who has repented
will confess verbally of their faith and belief in Jesus Christ as Lord
(Romans 10:9,10). A believer who has repented of their sins and confessed
Jesus as Lord will happily be baptized into Christ for the remission of sins
(Acts 22:16).
Examine closely what you did to become a Christian. Did
you do what the Bible says? If you are not saved, then be obedient to God’s
word and believe, repent of your sins, confess Jesus as Lord, and be
baptized to wash away your sins!
